Features of the Perfect House
Features of the Perfect House
A beautiful, updated, move-in ready home tops the list for many of today’s home buyers. Of course, we all want that picture perfect dream house. However, there are some features that go beyond the aesthetic wish list that may not first come to mind when thinking about what what your perfect house would be like. Check out some of these features that should be higher up on your list than just a pretty space:
- Location, Location, Location – This has to be number 1 on the list, as it’s really the only thing you can’t change. The location is where it is and that is that, so choose your perfect location wisely!
- A Winning Floor plan – One feature that is possibly only second next to location is the floor plan of the space. A home is not built for two-page spreads in fancy design magazines—it is a place where you live. A functional floor plan that is well-suited to daily life and all that goes along with it is something that many don’t consider when discussing the “must have” list of their dream home. Of course, the definition of a “good floor plan” may differ from person to person, depending on their needs, but the need for usable space is universal.
- Store all the things! – Who doesn’t own too much stuff? I think we are all guilty at some level. Hence, the importance of storage in a home. Whether it is lawn equipment, cars, voodoo dolls, or whatever it is you need to store—finding a home for the stuff is important too. Storage buildings, closets, sheds, attics, shelving systems and any other form of “extra” storage is always a huge selling point. Storage is one of those things you can never have too much of and will never go out of style.
- Must have thermostat – Texas gets, like, really hot. Central air conditioning is not only a big selling point, but often a dealbreaker if it is not in a house. Central HVAC is often taken for granted, until you realize it isn’t there.
- Privacy is Paramount – Do you like being watched? Yeah, neither does anybody else. Privacy is an important, but most often unspoken home feature. I’m not saying that everyone wants a 14’ razor wire fence surrounding the property, although some might. A general sense of privacy and some form of separation from your neighbors (even if it’s just a well-placed hedge) is a great feature.
Most of these features of the perfect house seem like “duh” items that shouldn’t even make your bullet list, but that is exactly my point. Trends and the latest décor colors will fade and change with time, but these features are more timeless than even the prettiest granite.
