Looking for some fun things to do this fall and Halloween in and around Palestine? This is not everything going on, but it is a lot! Be sure to check times/tickets for any attractions before going out, as times/ticket info may change. Happy Fall, yall!

- Writer Steve Goen will be at the Redland’s Hotel swith his 12th book, Passenger Trains of Texas: Missouri Pacific.About the book: It’s 176 pages long, hard cover, and includes almost 200 B&W and color photos of various Missouri Pacific passenger trains that once operated across Texas including many that served Palestine until September 21, 1970 when the MoPac’s Texas Eagle last ran thru Palestine. The book is printed on 100 lb. high gloss paper and features artwork of the Texas Eagle on the cover. Trains included are the Sunshine Special, Texas Triangle, Texan, Gulf Coast Eagle, Orleanean, Valley Eagle, Pioneer, Southerner, Aztec Eagle, and both the Houston and San Antonio sections of the Texas Eagle which met each morning and evening in Palestine.
FRIDAY OCTOBER 7, 2022
- Built 1878, and located just a stone’s throw away from downtown Palestine TX, lies one of the city’s most historic and infamous mansions. This Victorian home and National Texas Historic Landmark has a deep history, with stories of death, murder, and suicide. Back in the 1950’s the then-owner Mr. Bowers, murdered his wife Mary. As the police made their way up the path to enter the home, Mr. Bowers committed suicide. It’s believed that their spirits still linger, as well as several others who took their last breath here over the years.In addition to the 140+ year old home itself, there are several other buildings on the grounds, some of which are accessible, the servants quarters is the only building that cannot be accessed currently.This is an incredible building with so much history, and you will be one of the first people to investigate it!===PLEASE NOTE=== Tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis, with only 20 for sale! Read a spooky tale as you walk the 0.5 mile Scenic Trail. Great for all ages! (Not TOO spooky). Approximately 30-45min.This Story Walk takes place along a short easy trail suitable for kids of all ages. It features “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything” by Linda Williams and illustrated by Megan Lloyd.Enjoy this slightly spooky tale as you hike the 0.5 mile Scenic Trail. (approximately 30-45min).It will run Friday October 7th through Monday Oct 31st . 6am-10pm daily. Self guided. **This event is FREE with Park Entry and is available during park operating hours**

There are also $35 VIP tickets which include admission to both haunts in Tyler and the Mineola haunt, along with an after-hours ghost hunt at the Tyler location. - Join us on Saturday Night on October 8th & 15th as we search with a Blacklight for scorpions and “sniff” for spiders! Blacklights are provided but feel free to bring your own as they are in limited supply. Closed-toed shoes are a MUST! When: Saturday October 8th & 15th promptly at 8:30 pm (give yourself time to find parking)
Where: Meet at the South Boat Ramp Parking Lot (Follow the arrows)- Learn about scorpions and other night time bugs that glow under black light, you never know what you might see! We encourage you to bring your own blacklight but the park will have a limited number to hand out. What to Bring: Blacklight if you have one, Bug Spray, Water. This short hike will begin at the South Boat Ramp Parking Lot and loop back around. Normal park entry fees apply – Bring exact cash for the self-pay or pay online prior to arrival. - Dubbed “The best little airshow in Texas” the 23rd Annual Corsicana Airsho is on October 8, 2022. This year’s Airsho is dedicated to the memory of Col Candis Wells. She was a long-time supporter and active member of the Coyote Squadron as the Financial Officer and Co-Chair of the Airsho. She will live forever in our hearts. $10/person up to $20/carload with Active Military and Veterans free.

Meals on Wheels invites you to the Annual Event and Fundraiser. This event truly helps us “Keep The Wheels Turning” so that we are able to feed the Seniors of our community.This year we will transport our guests to Florence, Italy as we experience art, music, and Italian cuisine. We will begin with cocktails, wine, beer, cheese, and light hors d’oeuvres at 5pm.
The night will include a dinner, silent auction, musical guests, and a cake aution.
