It’s a new year and that means new trends! Styles always shift and it’s hard to stay on top of what is “hot” and what is “not,” but have no fear, I’m here to help! I love watching how the home design trends are going, especially seeing what is going on in pinterest/internet land vs. what people are REALLY doing in their homes. It’s an interesting mix, for sure.
Painted Cabinets vs. Unpainted / Stained Oak Cabinets in the Kitchen
When it comes to kitchen trends, white is still HOT! It’s a clean look that makes any space feel much larger. The trend is turning towards adding in subtle (or not so subtle) hues of grey to mix up the all-white look.
The medium oak stained cabinets were alright…nothing to write home about, but they were nice enough. But wow what a difference the paint made (the fun subway tile helps too!) Image: The Inspired Room
Grey is the “It” color!
Along the same lines as the kitchen we saw above, grey is popping up in design eye-candy everywhere! It’s THE go-to neutral for 2015 and you can see why here:
This color is GORGEOUS! (and you can get it at Lowe’s or Bralys! The color is Valspar’s Magic Spell) What an inviting entryway by Jenna Sue. I will definitely be using this color SOON!
If you like a little more color in your neutrals, even the darker greys somehow pull off as a neutral. This color is also by Valspar and called “Sienne.” The dark color is contrasted with the crisp white trim and looks lovely! Image: Veronika’s Blushing
Bubble Bath? Don’t mind if I do! Who wouldn’t want to bathe here?! Another gorgeous grey from Valspar called “Polar Star.” Love it! Image: Involving Color
If it’s hot, it’s Copper!
Everyone loves metallics. They can be overkill if used too strongly, but used sparingly, copper can be a really hot look! Check out these pops of copper:
This copper farmhouse sink is certainly a showstopper! (It’s very pricey though, but I bet there is a cheaper alternative somewhere.) What a cool look, though. Can you imagine the patina as it ages? Love! Sinks by Native Trails
Another neat pop of copper in a light fixture. Love this look. Image via: I Love My Interior
There’s a hot new appliance color in town!
Stainless steel has been hot for years, but I think the new “slate” appliances are going to start winning people over. The matte-finish type must be easier to clean, at least! I expect to start seeing these in homes soon, however, they just came out. What do you think? Do you like it? I will like it much more if little finger prints don’t stay all over it, that’s for sure! 😉
Oooh, not shiny but gorgeous nonetheless! Image via GE Appliances
Prefab Mirrors Are OUT! Framed Mirrors are very in!
This style has also been around for awhile, but I expect to see more of it in 2015. This is an easy way to ditch the “pre-fab” look and get a more custom style. It’s also very economical! Loving this trend!
This does not even look like the same room! The mirror is used as a focal point and really makes the room. This was also a DIY budget remodel, check out the details at Lively Green Door. Amazing!
The devil is in the details and this mirror adds such a glamorous effect! Much better than a plain old mirror sheet. Image via Golden Boys & Me
It really does make a huge difference in giving it that custom feel. Check out this great tutorial from Remoelaholic, if you’re a DIYer!
Accent Walls With Texture Instead of Just Color!
Accent walls are great, but textured accent walls are better! There are so many great ideas that can be used. Some of the best results come from the most unusual materials and ideas!
This is so cool! Can you believe this is a DIY for $130?! What a big impact and way cheaper than large artwork! Checkout the tutorial by Kate Pruitt on Design Sponge.
Texture, Texture, Texture! This was created with scrap wood! What an impact on an otherwise bland and uninteresting space. View tutorial via Curbly
No textured wall conversation would be complete without the style that pinterest made famous–the wood pallet wall (have also seen using shiplap). Very cool look and have seen it many different ways. Definitely cheap, as you can often get the pallets for free. Image via Hometalk
See anything you like? What trends do you think are up and coming? Which ones are dying? There are several trends I’d like to see die, but that is a whole different post! haha! Hope you have enjoyed this roundup! I better get to redecorating…eek!
