October Home Maintenance Tips
October Home Maintenance Tips
It’s time for pumpkin everything! Yay! It’s a great time to get a jump (or to catch up, let’s be honest) on some house maintenance before the busy holiday season starts. Check out these October home maintenance tips for your East Texas Home:
- BEEP! BEEP! – Get some fresh batteries for your smoke detectors. It’s super fast and an easy way to start the list. Get a few extras too, so you’re well prepared for the next time!
- FILTER TIME – Another easy one to get the momentum going! Changing out your filter regularly will help your HVAC system run more efficiently and extend the life of your system. While we are on the subject, check any water filters (such as in your fridge or water purification filter) to see if they need a refresh.
- ALL WRAPPED UP – This is a little early, but some stores sell out quickly, so pick up some pipe wraps and faucet covers the next time you’re at the store. You’ll have them ready when the cold weather eventually comes in.
- CRITTER CHECK – Raccoon, squirrels, rats, etc love making a house inside your home. Walk around and look for any spots where the critters can get in. If there are any holes (and especially if the holes have a pair of eyes looking back at you), figure out a way to close the opening. While you’re on the lookout for critters, keep an eye out for signs of termites or carpenter ants.
- CLEAN IT FIRST – Creosote buildup is one of the leading causes of house fires. Before you light a fire this year, have your chimney cleaned!
Home maintenance isn’t as fun as eating pumpkin-flavored treats, but the time spent is well worth it. To reduce long term upkeep costs and save yourself some stress. Happy Fall, Y’all!
