NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS FOR YOUR HOUSE
Welcome to 2016! Can you believe it? Another year has passed all too quickly and it’s time to make those yearly promises to yourself. Sure, you could go with a classic resolution of dieting; but brownies are too good to give up. My advice? Go with something more rewarding—house resolutions! Here are a few ideas to consider:
LIVE CLEAN & LOSE WEIGHT
Decluttering is one way to “lose weight” that is much easier than a smoothie diet. Don’t try to do it all at once—you’ve got a whole year! Dedicate one day per month to going through a room of the house. Go through every nook and cranny—closets, drawers, everything. Clutter builds up quickly, especially if you’ve been in your home for years. Don’t just pack it in a box and cram it in a closet or the garage—donate it or sell it! The hardest part of decluttering is being honest with yourself. Ask yourself the questions: Do I need this? Do I actually use this? If you don’t need it or haven’t used it in the last 6 months, get rid of it! You’d be surprised how freeing it is to get rid of all the unwanted junk in your life. Bonus money can be made on items you decide to sell, too! Sometimes less really is more.
GET A MAKEOVER
You don’t need eyelash extensions or a fancy new wardrobe. Well, you don’t, but your house might! Painting is one of the cheapest ways to get an (almost) instant makeover. There is little risk here because if you end of hating it, you are just a brush away from undoing it. Don’t be afraid to embrace the magic of paint!
If you don’t feel like painting, try redecorating. You don’t have to buy all new furniture (or even buy anything!). Start small with some new throw pillows. If you’re on a budget, there are many free redecorating options too! Switch around your artwork, rearrange your furniture or repurpose that exercise room into something you’ll actually use and enjoy!
EXTREME MAKEOVER
Dreaming of a remodel? Begin budgeting for your plans so you can complete your remodel ASAP and enjoy it for years to come. If you don’t make a plan, it will never happen. Don’t wait until right before you decide to sell to remodel it, if you can help it. That way you can enjoy your hard work/money and also enjoy the https://buypalestine.com/2015/12/26/how-to-sell-your-home-for-more-than-your-neighbors-house/ it brings when you go to sell.
EXERCISE REGULARLY
I don’t expect you to do 100 sit-ups every morning. However, we all know the more exercise you get, the better you look and the healthier you are. A house is no different. Resolve to stay on top of maintenance issues in the New Year. It will pay big time both in the good looks of your house and down the road when you go to sell. Few things cost a seller more than deferred maintenance and repairs don’t get cheaper the longer you wait.
New Year’s Resolutions aren’t always fun—usually it is something you want to change, which has a negative connotation to it. However, a new year is a fresh start to make a positive change at home, without ever having to step foot in a gym.
