July Home Maintenance Tips
July Home Maintenance Tips
It is definitely summer out there! I know it is oppressively hot and that makes it tough to stay on top of your “honey do” list. Make sure your home is ready to survive the summer with these maintenance tips:
- A Safe Backyard—It’s summer and that means more time spent in the backyard. Be sure your family and friends can enjoy your outdoor space safely. Loose screws, rusty nails and splinters can put a damper on the fun. Inspect all outdoor furniture and play equipment (swing sets, trampolines, pools, etc.) for possible dangers. Tighten bolts, hammer loose nails, check for rotted parts and fix any other issues before they end a day in tears.
- Leak B Gone—Check underneath all your sinks, washer hose connection and any other water areas for active leaks. If you find a leak, get it fixed asap—water is not your friend, unless you are lounging in a pool.
- Trim Your Trees—Be sure to cut dead tree limbs and remove dead trees so they don’t fall on your house or car. If you can do it yourself, great; however, if the limbs are over your house or close to the house, I would highly recommend a professional tree service. Paying for a “haircut” is still cheaper than a limb coming through your roof!
- Keep Cool—Your air conditioner is doing full-time duty right now, so make sure it is at peak performance. Change the A/C vent monthly before it is too clogged to cool! It only takes a few minutes.
- Fence Surgery—Inspect your fence for loose pickets, rotten posts or any other damage and make any repairs needed. Be sure that any damage is not from wood destroying insects. If termites are present, get it treated immediately—they won’t stop dining until they are dead.
- Summer Fun in the Sun!—This is something you should make a priority—because you’ll only have one summer in 2018 and there is no such thing as too much fun! All work and no play isn’t what summer is all about. Plan something fun at your house—it doesn’t have to be anything fancy! Throw some hotdogs on the grill and call your friends!
Unfortunately, houses don’t take the summers off, so keeping up with maintenance will keep your home in prime shape. However, don’t forget to enjoy the summer—after all, what good is a fabulously maintained home if it isn’t enjoyed with friends and some yummy meat on the grill?
