Everyone wants a designer-inspired backyard, but sometimes wishes and budgets don’t exactly match up. The good news is, you don’t have to spend a fortune to have an inspired backyard—you just need to be clever about it! There are many ways to give your yard a spruce while staying budget friendly. Check out these ideas for an awesome summer yard on a budget:

1. COLOR ME UPDATED! – If your patio furniture is looking a little haggard, consider painting it! Metal, plastic and wood can all be painted—just be sure and use the right type of paint for the material. If it is on borrowed time, you really don’t have much to lose by giving it a shot. Look around on your patio—what else could use a pop of color? Plant stands, pots, bird feeders and wind chimes are all examples of items that can be refreshed with paint. Paint is magical and can make things seem fresh and new again. If you don’t want to go the painting route, try adding some new cushions or some fun throw pillows for instant pops of color!
2. BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG PARTY– Adding evening lighting will boost the ambiance and is very budget friendly. Add solar pathway lights, a small fire pit or string up some fun café lights (or extra holiday lights, if you have them lying around!). If you’re going to be outside after dark, lighting is a must, so it might as well be fun lighting!
3. WHO DOESNT LOVE FLOWERS?– For some instant beauty, pick up some fun new flowers to add to your flower beds or pots. Flowers will not only improve your curb appeal, but will give you a smile every time you pass by.
4. DOOR MAKEOVER – If your door has been neglected for several years, consider giving it a fresh coat of paint. Front doors are often repainted, but back doors are easier to overlook (and let’s face it, they are used more often!). Before painting is a great time to check out your door hardware—does it need to be updated? Is it rusty, broken or a super outdated style? If so, before painting is a great time to change it out. Remove the old hardware, prep and paint the door and then install the new hardware. If you do it all at the same time, you won’t have to worry about any unpainted spots where the old hardware used to be and you’ll have nice new hardware to admire every time you go in the back door!
5. LESS IS MORE – Clear the clutter from your yard. This can make a huge impact on your overall backyard appeal and it is 100% FREE! A good mindset to get into when decluttering the yard is to pretend you’re having a backyard party. Set the “scene” as if you are having a bunch of people over to visit and it will make you much pickier. Are there random items or things that are broken or need to be put into retirement? Old rusty yard décor? Find new storage “homes” for the random wheelbarrows, hoses and clutter (preferably out of sight). If you don’t use it or if it no longer looks good for décor, throw it away or donate it. Finish off with by sweeping the hard surface areas. The more ruthless you are when decluttering, the bigger the big reveal will be when you’re finished!

Your backyard can be an amazing space without breaking the bank. If you keep it up and throw in a few fun changes for yourself, it will be a location for great fun all summer long in no time.
