MUSEUMS & HISTORY
Museum For East Texas Culture – 400 Micheaux, Palestine, TX – 903-729-1914 – **NOTE: HAS CLOSED DURING THE PANDEMIC–IT IS UNKNOWN IF IT WILL EVER REOPEN–CALL BEFORE GOING TO SEE IF IT IS OPEN AGAIN**This exquisite example of Tudor-Gothic style architecture was saved from demolition by dedicated citizens in 1982 and has operated as a museum ever since. Rooms in the 1915 schoolhouse display artifacts and special interest exhibits. Exhibits include an authentic vintage classroom, a railroad memorabilia room, a refurbished caboose and more. The museum is a depository for the historical treasures of Palestine and Anderson County. Rotating art exhibits are on display upstairs. The museum is a recorded Texas Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Self-Guided Historical Homes Tour (click here to download map from the Visitor’s Center) – Large magnolia trees and white columns welcome you to this gateway of a bygone era. Over 1,800 historical sites grace Palestine, second only to Galveston.
Howard House Museum (903) 729-5094 – 1011 N Perry, Palestine, TX – Open for tours by appointment, the Howard House Museum is one of the finest examples of Greek Revival architecture remaining in Texas and is listed in the National Register of Historical Places, located at 1011 North Perry. Downtown Palestine Self-Guided Walking Tour Brochure (click here to download) – Presented by the Palestine Chamber of Commerce. This walking tour will take you through the historic-laden streets of downtown Palestine, where the railroad was king and the entire town came to play!
Holiday Tour of Homes – This is a yearly event organized by the Palestine Chamber of Commerce. It highlights 5 historic homes in the tour and typically runs during Frost Fest in December of each year.

Palestine Community Theatre Live at The Texas Theatre– A fine group of local talent that hosts seasonal productions in one of the oldest and most grand Spanish Colonial style theatres in Texas! Visit their calendar see upcoming productions.
Art Tracks Sculpture Exhibition – This is an outdoor sculpture exhibit with pieces on display throughout downtown Palestine. The sculptures change yearly, so there is always something cool to go see! All the sculptures are for sale and are on loan from the artists.

Dogwood Jamboree – A Branson-Style Music Show and fun for the whole family with multiple shows per year. Check here for upcoming shows!
Hot Pepper Festival Music – The City always has great bands playing at the yearly October festival, which is an all day event with multiple music stages.
Dogwood Trails Festival & Beer Garden – Dogwood Trails has live music in “The Hollow” in Old Town, which is a great venue for local bands and a fun time every spring!
Palestine Old Time Music and Dulcimer Festival – An annual festival in Palestine during Dogwood Trails.
